Caste census: In 18 districts families surveyed exceed target
Bengaluru: The recently concluded caste census in the state has thrown a few surprises. In 18 out of 30 districts the number of families surveyed were in fact higher than the number of households initially estimated by the government.
According to the latest data, the highest difference was found in Koppal district (105.89 per cent), followed by Kalaburugi (104.42) and Bengaluru Rural (103.20). In many districts it was exactly 100 per cent.
Though census work was completed on April 30 itself, except in Bengaluru, the processing of forms and digitalization is taking time.
According to the data, till now 1,39,73,453 families have been surveyed, but only 90,95,110 forms have been received.
Among them 17,55,171 forms have been digitalized, while 5,91,753 have undergone quality check. Among them, only 1,19,548 forms have been approved.
An officer told this newspaper that these anomalies do happen while carrying out census.
There will always be a difference between total number of households estimated and the actual number of families residing, the officer said.
“We are checking each and every form and they will be uploaded on the website to ensure that there is no foul play. Even the general public can access it. In Bengaluru city, census work will continue till May 10,” he said.
