Union minister Uma Bharati backs irrigation projects

Uma Bharati promised national project status for Pranahita Chevella
Hyderabad: Union minister for water resources Uma Bharati promised national project status for Pranahita Chevella besides assuring all support to other irrigation projects and schemes taken up by Telangana.
Ms Bharati gave this assurance when Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao called on her to seek Central support for various irrigation projects, Mission Kakatiya, Telangana Water Grid and other schemes.
The Chief Minister submitted a detailed memorandum with regard to Pranahita Chevella, the proposed change in the design and location of the barrage at Kaleshwaram instead of Tummadihatti where YSR laid the foundation stone to avoid inter-state dispute with neighbouring Maharashtra.
Mr Rao, it is learnt, also assured the Union minister that the Telangana government would take every precaution to avoid inter-state or any other dispute in construction of irrigation projects across Godavari and Krishna rivers to tap its share of waters.
He explained the discussions he had with his Maharashtra counterpart with regard to Pranahita Chevella and the broad understanding reached between the two states on the issue.
The Chief Minister also invited Ms Bharati to formally launch Mission Kakatiya by unveiling a pylon at Warangal. She promised to visit the state before May 16.
