Mercury on the rise again

Since May 1, city has touched 40ºC mark thrice
Hyderabad: After a relatively cool summer, so far, due to the unseasonal rains, temperatures are rising once again across the two states. “The fall in temperature was a normal response to the rains, but the increase started since the last week of April,” said a Met department official.
While in some places, the temperatures have been appreciably lower than normal, in other places like Nizamabad, a variation of +3ºC was noted.
Hyderabad too has had a mixed summer so far and the temperatures have not remained at a constant high. Compared to last year, the temperatures recorded in the last one month have been slightly lower, but starting from May 1, the city has touched the 40ºC mark thrice already.
The temperatures in Vizag in 2014 were above 37ºC throughout the first week of May. Except on May 6, which recorded 39ºC, the temperatures have been around 34-35ºC in the city this year. Maximum temperatures have been raising across AP and Telangana. Kurnool, Anantapur, Nizamabad, Tirupati, Ramagundam, Nellore and Vijayawada have crossed the 40ºC mark. IMD officials have meanwhile said that “there is a 70 per cent probability of a delayed monsoon.”
