Maoists grilled for third day
Coimbatore: A day after taking the Maoist couple to neighbouring Tirupur district, the Q branch sleuths intensively grilled the five Maoists for the third consecutive day at PRS Grounds in Coimbatore on Friday. The Q branch sleuths are going through loads of documents and CDs seized from the house of Maoist couple Roopesh and Shyna in Tirupur. They were staying since August 2012 in a rented house in Tirupur without raising the suspicions of neighbours.
On Friday, Shyna, who complained of severe toothache and stomach pain, was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for treatment. “She had a decayed tooth, which caused her pain. Antibiotics and medicines were prescribed to her,” said Edwin Joe, dean of CMCH.Following a request from Q branch sleuths, a doctor was also deputed from CM CH to examine the Maoists and give fitness certificates. “It’s a norm for police to obtain fitness certificates twice, while taking people into custody and then producing them in court. But they were examined for the second time on Friday following a request from cops,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police are probing to know the identity of a few persons who came to the Q branch office in Hudco Colony in Peelamedu in two wheelers and shouted slogans hailing the Maoists and their movement. The incident happened last Tuesday when the extremists were taken to court for remand from the Q branch office. “Three to four persons came in two wheelers and shouted slogans that the Maoists can’t be curbed by police action.
Though the cops noted the vehicle number, it later turned out to be fake. The images recorded in the CCTVs fitted on the arterial roads are being examined for further details. It’s under investigation,” said a senior police official. Q branch sleuths of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh swooped down on the five Maoists — R. Roopesh alias Praveen, 45, his wife R. Shyna, 42, J. Anup, 31, C. Veeramani alias Easwaran, 60 and C. Kannan, 46 — in Coimbatore.
