DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin ‘invite’ for BJP, Congress
Wedding invitation for EVKS and Tamilisai raises eyebrows
Chennai: DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Friday called on the state presidents of Congress and BJP and invited them for a family wedding. Both E.V.K.S. Elangovan and Tamilisai Soundararajan launched a volley of attack on the ruling party the same day.
While the meeting between Stalin and Elangovan fuelled further speculations about the two parties warming up much ahead of the next Assembly poll due in 2016, Tamilisai’s statement in Karur that “AIADMK failed on all fronts and it will be defeated in 2016” left the rumour mills spinning overtime.
Though Stalin denied any political significance behind the visits, particularly his meeting with Elangovan, sources in both parties were not averse to admitting that the marriage might be a meeting of minds and a platform for 2016. Curiously, Stalin also visited TMC leader G.K. Vasan later in the day.
Incidentally, DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi will be visiting state Congress headquarters Satyamurthy Bhavan on Saturday to attend a function organised to pay tribute to deceased Sahitya Akademi award winner Jayakanthan.
CPI(M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan and party Rajya Sabha MP T.K. Rangarajan and former CPI MP Subarayan will also be participating in the event, which will be the second visit by Left leaders in the recent months considering that CPI national committee member R. Nallakannu and CITU leader A. Soundararajan had participated in the release of a book on Jawaharlal Nehru by TNCC leader A. Gopanna who is also organising Saturday’s event.
Late last month, DMDK leader Vijayakanth met Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence and the following day led a delegation of Opposition parties (except PMK) to Delhi where they met and persuaded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do justice to the state in Mekadatu dam issue. Vijayakant had launched a volley of charges against the AIADMK at the infamous media briefing in the national capital then. Meanwhile, Elangovan said, “Everyone is fed up with AIADMK government’s corruption. Opposition parties are uniting against the ruling party.”
