Bison Ground Secretariat criticised

Nearly 3,000 walkers visit the ground daily
Hyderabad: Many Hyderabadis are against idea of the new Secretariat being built on the Bison Ground, and say that open spaces in the city are being eaten up by the government. For years, Bison Ground — one of the biggest grounds in the twin cities — has been a fitness-cum-cultural site for many.
On behalf of lakhs of people, N. Ramanathan, secretary of Marredpally Welfare Association, said, “From 1938 till today, the Ground has been used by many successful sportspersons. It is one of the very few open spaces in Secunderabad. The Begumpet stretch is already packed, and if the Secretariat comes up there, the road will be crippled.
Since for CM Chinna Reddy’s time, all governments have successfully operated from the present Secretariat, why is there now a need for a new one? This is just wastage of public funds. The water and drain lines will be cramped. The existing Secretariat can be modified, instead of taking up fresh land.”
Nearly 3,000 walkers from Secunderabad visit the ground daily; thousands of youngsters play cricket, volleyball and other sports and several schools hold their annual cultural events here. The extensive ground can accommodate 3 lakh people.
