95 per cent attendance for AP Eamcet despite RTC strike

This was the first major entrance exam conducted after the bifurcation by the AP government
Hyderabad: In spite of the public transport paralysis in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state due to the RTC strike, the first AP Eamcet witnessed a higher turnout than in the previous years. Record attendance of 95.39 per cent was reported for the engineering stream exam, while the medical exam recorded an attendance percentage of 95.62 per cent. Over the last three years, the attendance hovered around 94 and 93 per cent.
Meanwhile, the students found the physics section to be tougher than the other subjects. The mathematics section was said to be more time-consuming than usual. AP HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the first Eamcet in residuary AP was a conducted successfully despite the odds. While most students reached on time, about 50 students reached the exam halls late. However, they were allowed to write the exam. The results will be declared on May 26.
This was the first major entrance exam conducted after the bifurcation by the Andhra Pradesh government. Mr Srinivasa Rao called it a stupendous success. “There was great team work between the government officials and ministers. The Chief Minister was continuously reviewing the situation with officials and ministers. At some places, even police personnel dropped students at their exam centres,” Mr Srinivasa Rao said. He said there were just one or two stray incidents of students not being allowed into the exam hall for coming late. One incident took place in Hyderabad, where the student came about 45 minutes late. There were four cases of suspected malpractices, such as impersonation and carrying a cellphone.
Eamcet convener Ch Saibaba said that one student at Vizianagaram centre and another student in Hyderabad were suspected of impersonation and these students were handed over to the respective divisional superintendent of police near the area. Another student was caught making slips for the exam. In Vijayawada, the invigilator seized one cellphone from a student.
