140 acres of land cleared of encroachment

The urban administration authorities have shifted their focus on periphery of the city

BENGALURU: After a brief gap of two days, the urban administration authorities have begun demolition of commercial structures and a few resorts that have come up on tank bed and gomala (pasture) areas.

The South and North division of urban authorities have recovered about 140 acres of land, worth over Rs. 500 crore, said Assistant Commissioner (South) L.C. Nagaraj.

Following direction from the state government not to demolish residential buildings and those allotted by the BDA, the urban administration authorities have shifted their focus on periphery of the city.

Although no residential structures have been demolished, the authorities found that in some areas land sharks, in order to take over land, had accommodated some families there to make it appear as a residential unit.

However, after verifying their antecedents, they were removed, he added. About 14.14 acres of land has been recovered from Mylasandra, 12 acres from Kammanahalli, one temple and 7.18 acres from Jaraganahalli.

As far as Ilyasnagar at Kadirenahalli is concerned, where a storm water drain has been encroached upon, the urban authorities first plan to conduct a survey.
