Here’s An overview of some of the most infamous fallouts in the Bollywood industry
Bipasha Basu and Sajid Khan
Bollywood thrives on the pillars of economics, equation and ego. Few things determine filmi friendships more than how the films themselves fare at the box office. It’s a bed of roses when till money comes in, but when it doesn’t, it opens the floodgates to blame games. And it’s not always a post release scenario. In the case of Bombay Velvet, which is releasing next week, Raveena Tandon got miffed with the makers who reduced her role to a mere guest appearance. Ever since the trailer has been out the film has been getting mixed reactions from within the industry, so a few changes are being made to it to fine-tune it further. The axe fell on Raveena’s role and the actress was so upset that she made an official statement saying she has washed her hands off the project.
We take a look at a few other instances that have triggered famous fallouts between actors and filmmakers in the industry.
Bipasha Basu and Sajid Khan
After the success of Race and Omkaara, Bipasha Basu thought that one more film with Saif Ali Khan would be a wise career move. So she merrily signed Sajid Khan’s Humshakals. The doomed film played havoc between the actress and the director.
Bipasha had gone on record to state that Sajid had made a film that was far from the narration that was given to her. Bipasha maintains that breach of trust led to their fall out and she’ll never work with Sajid again.
Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Leela Bhansali
It was in early 2000s when Kareena was gung ho about playing the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani opposite Salman Khan. The filmmaker and actress were looking forward to working with each other, but the project got shelved.
The actress hoped that whenever the project would get renewed, the director would go ahead with her. But that never happened. Back then, the miffed actress had even said that she’d rather sit at home than work with SLB. Their terms improved in the later years and the two were all set to work together in Ram-Leela. But the constant delay in the film and prior commitments forced Kareena to walk out of the film.
Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali became the iconic actor–filmmaker team of the industry after the success of Devdas. But their bonhomie went kaput when SRK’s Om Shanti Om clashed against SLB’s Saawariya. Their tussle grabbed more attention and their films were also the launch pads of Deepika Paudukone (OSO) and Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor (Sawariya). When Bhansali’s film didn’t work, he minced no words in blaming the opposite team.
Akshay Kumar and Ekta Kapoor
She was confident of repeating the success of the original Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (starring Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi), when she roped in Akshay Kumar for the sequel. Given Akshay’s reputation as a bankable actor, Ekta had little reason to worry.
Buzz was that Akshay had stopped the promotions of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara mid way as he wasn’t happy with the final product. As expected, the film was a disaster at the box office and the producer blamed Akshay for it. The two are yet to resolve their differences on the matter.
Aamir Khan and Ram Gopal Varma
When Ram Gopal Varma and Aamir Khan came together in Rangeela, which went on to become a runaway hit, their collaboration was seen as a powerful one in the industry. But creative differences forced them to drift apart before long. While RGV accused Aamir of interfering with the script, Aamir wasn’t too pleased with RGV’s directorial skills.
Both wanted the upper hand during the making of Rangeela. Their differences were the talk of the industry for more than a decade. The two have not collaborated ever since.
