Damaged roads? Bengalureans don’t have to wait for BBMP
BENGALURU: Damaged roads, noise pollution … if you have any solution in mind for these infrastructure problems in your neighbourhood, then here is a chance to draft a proposal and even get funds to implement them. Noting that citizen participation and community engagement could overcome development challenges, United Technologies Corporation (UTC), as part of its CSR activity, launched an urbanization project ‘Citizens for the City’ on Thursday.
As part of the project, UTC has launched an initiative ‘Neighbourhood Improvement Partnership’ challenge, wherein it has exhorted citizens to submit proposals to improve and maintain public spaces in their neighbourhood. The proposals, which will be assessed and guided by a panel of experts, will be funded by the UTC.
During the launch, Ashok Mirchandani, MD, Carrier Transicold, highlighted, “The projects could be as simple as improving street lighting or reducing noise pollution in the neighbourhood.” He said that youth could bring a tangible change to the city, which is also one of the reasons why Bengaluru was chosen for the project.
Registered resident welfare associations, apartment associations, gated community societies and community based organisations are eligible to participate. In addition, NGOs working with underprivileged groups in the city for two years or more, may also apply.
The winning proposal will get a sum of Rs 15 lakh to implement a project, while Rs 1 crore has been set aside for the entire project. The last date to submit the proposals is June 25. Subsequently, nine months’ time will be given to solve the infrastructure problems of a neighbourhood. By June 2016, the UTC aims to see a transformed neighbourhood in Bengaluru.
