No clarity over June 2 as Andhra Pradesh Formation Day
Neither the people nor school managements are sure when to celebrate
Hyderabad: Less than a month from June 2, the “appointed day” as per the AP Reorganisation Act, neither the people nor school managements are sure when to celebrate the state’s Formation Day — next month or on November 1.
Even the AP government remains undecided on the issue. The state government is of the view that the pain of AP’s bifurcation was felt by its nearly five crore people. As such, the Chandrababu Naidu Cabinet has decided to observe June 2 as Nava Nirmana Deeksha day, and no official decision has been taken to continue officially celebrating November 1 as AP Formation Day.
When asked, principal secretary, school education, R.P. Sisodia said no direction has been given to schools on the Formation Day celebrations. “We will consult with the government and send a circular to schools,” he said.
Agriculture minister P. Pulla Rao said though June 2 was the “appointed day” and it has to be considered as the AP Formation Day if one was to strictly go by the Reorganisation Act, it has not been finalised as “the day” by the TD government.
“People of Seemandhra were not in favour of bifurcation and had even launched an agitation for Samaikyandhra. Bifurcation was against our wishes and that too unscientific. The result is bad memories and financial constraints,” Mr Pulla Rao said, adding that Opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should stop politicising the issue.
Stating that the CM will soon decided on the AP Formation Day, he said that the sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu cannot be forgotten and due prominence would be given to him on November 1.
Senior TD leader Linga Reddy said June 2 was certainly not a day to be celebrated. “It is a day on which the sentiments of people of Seemandhra were badly hurt,” he said.
