Telugu film producer C Kalyan gets pre-arrest notice
Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police has sent a pre-arrest notice to Telugu film producer C. Kalyan for allegedly assaulting a woman during a meeting at his residential complex. Police officials said that if Kalyan does not respond to the notice within three days they will arrest him for allegedly outraging a woman’s modesty and for criminal intimidation.
The police sent the notice as per the recent Supreme Court ruling which said that alleged criminals should be notified before arrest if the punishment for their crime is less than seven years imprisonment. Jubilee Hills police inspector S. Venkat Reddy said that a notice under Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been sent to Mr Kalyan.
Earlier, the police had booked a case against him under Section 354 C (outraging a woman’s modesty) 506 (criminal intimidation) 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) following a complaint from the victim, who is a neighbour of the producer.
However, Mr Kalyan denied the allegations made by the victim. “I had only requested if I could use her parking space for a few days. I wanted to use the space to hold a meeting. I never threatened her or made any derogatory comments,” said Mr Kalyan.
Legal experts said that Kalyan can apply for bail in the next three days and the court will decide to give it or not. The producer’s publicists refused to comment on the issue.
