Techies rejoice as AC low-floor buses roll out

Buses ply between Infopark and satellite towns

Kochi: There’s good news for techies as the Kerala Urban Road Transport Corporation (KURTC) has started operating AC low-floor buses from nearby satellite towns where a substantial population of software employees reside.

“We’re very happy that that the KURTC management has heeded our written request and started operating AC buses from towns such as Koratty, Muvattupuzha and Alappuzha among others. This is in addition to the fleet of 10 buses already operating to Infopark from various parts of the district,” Hrishikesh Nair, CEO, Infopark.

The services are being operated in such a way that the employees working in various shifts would be benefitted.

“I’ve flagged off the Infopark-Koratty and Infopark-Muvattupuzha services the other day. Now I’ve requested them one more service – from the Aluva railway station to Infopark South Gate. The officers have replied in the positive,” Mr Nair said.

The KURTC officials said they were planning more such services after conducting a survey among the IT employees.

“The new low-floor buses are running profitably since they are being operated on dedicated routes after proper planning. Places like Cherthala have become hub of IT employees as the cost of living and rent in the Kochi city are manifold,” KURTC special officer N. G. Pradeep Kumar said.

He said the services would be rescheduled once nearly 150 buses are shifted to the Thevara depot from Ernakulam depot.
