Kozhikode: Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) under the state social justice department is all set to fund one of the four health programmes of Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (IMHANS) which is almost non-functional due to zero fund allotment.
Sources said the child development disability programme (CDDP) catering to some 1,600 children of Kozhikode, Kasargod, Malappuram and Wayanad districts would be funded by the KSSM.
KSSM executive director Dr T. P. Ashraf told Deccan Chronicle that the final agreement would be signed at the executive level meeting of KSSM on May 7. The budget allocated for the KSSM for the treatment of autism affected children should be used for the CDDP programme.
The KSSM has to shell out approximately Rs 22 lakh to run the programme a year. Apart from the CDDP, three other programmes of IMHANS - community mental health programme, child development services and district mental health programme - has been axed by the non-allocation of funds by the centre and the failure of state government to release the assured amount.
The IMHANS has been incurring a debt of Rs 60 lakh for running these programmes for long. At the same time, the termination of the programmes has invited flak from different quarters.
