No decision yet on food court
Sportspersons oppose food court at IGMC, want VMC to relocate it
Vijayawada: Even though the sports fraternity opposes the establishment of Night Food Court in football court part of Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here, the municipal corporation has not yet taken any further decision on the issue.
During recent visit to the Night Food Court as part of ‘Swachh AP’ programme organised by sports fraternity, mayor Koneru Sridhar for the first time said that the food court was being organised against the rules of the corporation and that it was not approved by the council. However, the entire sports fraternity including sports officers and coaches are opposing the food court.
Sports authority of Andhra Pradesh chairman P.R. Mohan condemned the decision of running food court and objected it on several occasions and even conducted press conferenc-es to express anguish. However, there were no efforts from the side of sports fraternity and no one had approached city police seeking change of the location of food court.
Though it is alleged that the food court turned into a hub for antisocial elements during nights and alcohol consumption, police department have no plans to relocate it since the food court is a hit with public. However, it is hoped that discussing the issue in the upcoming municipal council session this Thursday may help sports fraternity get their football court vacated.
