Hyderabad gets first India Post ATM
Hyderabad: The first India Post ATM in the two states was inaugurated in Hyderabad at the Abids GPO on Tuesday. This ATM can currently be used only by Postal Savings Bank account holders.
There are over 1,40,18,000 savings account holders in Telangana and more than 3,00,8,000 account holders in AP.
The number of ATM card holders is growing slowly as the initiative was announced recently, but the counters at all Head Post Offices are creating awareness and the registrations will pick up once the news spreads, the officials said.
Electronic services offered by India Post in the AP circle are the reason behind the successful performance here, said Chief Post Master General of AP Circle B.V. Sudhakar.
“India Post is setting up a total of 95 ATMs across Telangana and AP soon. Out of these, 36 will be in Telangana. All the HPOs in both the states are already on the ‘Core-Banking Solutions’ platform. About 2,438 sub-post offices in both Telangana and AP are also being upgraded to the CBS platform in 2015-16,” he said.
Postal customers using CBS can have benefits of anytime and anywhere banking, increase in quality of the service provided and timely and accurate information for management decision making.
The ATM at Secunderabad will be inaugurated on Wednesday. Two more ATMs will be coming up in Jubilee Post Office and another in Kurnool, within a week, Mr Sudhakar said. India Post plans to relax rules for purchase of tickets for TTD.
