Eraviperoor to become WiFi-enabled panchayat
PATHANAMTHITTA: Eraviperoor in Pathanamthitta will soon become a WiFi-enabled panchayat with the administration deciding to provide free internet access to the public at five spots.
The project to be launched in June also proposes a model of self-sufficiency through advertisements for meeting its operational costs.
Free WiFi internet will be provided at the panchayats office, village knowledge centre, primary health centre, office buildings and the children’s park.
The routers to provide the internet connectivity will be installed by BSNL. Three spots, including the panchayat office and other offices, have already been given the
connectivity.
“We plan to meet the expenses through advertisements. The first page opened through this connection accessed will be an advertisement. The service provider will be given the revenue generated through this which is also an additional income for the panchayat,” Mr N. Rajeev, Eraviperoor panchayat president, told Deccan Chronicle.
The internet service through WiFi will be initially available to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Eraviperoor panchayat had also bagged a national award for the best public administration.
The panchayat also boasts of four state awards, including those for biodiversity conservation employed by the biodiversity board, model hi-tech green village by the horticulture department, pain and palliative care award by the district panchayat and sanitation award by the sanitation mission.
