Former constable had killed people involved in his mothers murder
Chennai: The additional sessions court, Tiruvallur, has sentenced a former head constable of Tamil Nadu police to life imprisonment on charges of killing two persons involved in his mother’s murder. Based on a direction from the Madras HC, the CBI had registered a case against Murugan. According to the prosecution, on July 9, 2009, a few prisoners, including Dhanasekharan and Semon, were escorted from central prison, Puzhal, to judicial magistrate court, Thiruttani, for extension of remand.
Dhanasekharan and Semon were involved in the murder of Muniammal, mother of head constable R. Murugan, on September 5, 2008. Murugan had been waiting for an opportunity to take revenge. He suddenly opened fire from his service rifle at Dhanasekharan and Semon when the police vehicle carrying them was on the move.
While Dhanasekharan died on the spot, Semon suffered injuries. In March 2011, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Murugan under sections 302, 307 of IPC and section 27 of Arms Act. The court found Murugan convicted under all the charges and sentenced him to undergo life imprisonment. The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.
