Kuwait team to finalise nurses’ recruitments

The Indian embassy in Libya had advised that it was not for making recruitments to that country now

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A government delegation from Kuwait is likely to visit India from May 10 to finalise the nitty-gritty of overseas nursing recruitment, which has been restricted through three government agencies from May 1.

According to sources, the delegation led by Kuwait ministry of health under-secretary Dr Jamal Al-Harbi is scheduled to come to the state as two of the three government agencies empanelled to make all future overseas nursing recruitment are in Kerala.

Though a Kerala-delegation had held a meeting with the Kuwait health ministry authorities last month, certain issues like service charge, eliminating middlemen and posting of requirements for nurses on India government's e-migrate portal were not finalised.

Hence, further discussions are being planned, said sources. Labour and employment principal secretary Tom Jose said the government was awaiting confirmation on the visit of the delegation.

Meanwhile, overseas recruitment of nurses through the government empanelled agencies could be delayed as foreign employers were yet to place any requirements on the e-migrate portal.

“We had requested all the countries concerned through the Indian embassies to place demands through the new system. The Indian embassy in Libya had advised that it was not for making recruitments to that country now,” said Mr. Jose.

NORKA-Roots chief executive officer R.S. Kannan said that many foreign employers had already engaged private agencies for recruitments of nurses for the coming months.

“Since emigration clearance from protectors of emigrants has been made mandatory for all overseas nursing recruitments from this month, the foreign employers would be forced to approach us shortly,” he said.

NORKA-Roots and Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants in Kerala and Overseas Manpower Corporation of Tamil Nadu are the three agencies empanelled to carry out nursing recruitments from May 1.
