Indur seeks visit by Rahul Gandhi

Political observers opined that Nizamabad district reflects the burning problems of Telangana state

Nizamabad: People from different walks of life feel that Nizamabad district should be included in AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s maiden visit to Telangana state on or after May 10.

Political observers opined that Nizamabad district reflects the burning problems of Telangana state, which has traumatised the farming community, a sizeable number of Gulf migrants and beedi workers.

TPCC is seriously considering Narsapur in Medak district and Nirmal of Adilabad district for Rahul Gandhi’s visit on the issue of farmers’ suicides. In this connection, Rahul Gandhi may travel around 130 km in Nizamabad district to reach Nirmal from Medak district. In view of this, the people of the district said that the national leader should halt in Nizamabad to get firsthand information from the farmers and others.

Speaking to this newspaper, Opposition leader in Legislative Council Mohammad Ali Shabbir said that TPCC in co-ordination with Congress high command is planning the tour. programme of Rahul Gandhi. Compared to Adilabad and Medak district, Nizamabad has lesser suicidal deaths of farmers, he said. Inclusion of Nizamabad district is welcoming, but party higher-ups should take a decision, he added.

Nizamabad district is well known for cultivating of paddy, maize, sugarcane and turmeric in large quantities. The farmers were adversely affected with untimely rains coupled with hailstorms. Scanty rainfall in the district has forced the farmers into the drought trap.

A large section of farmers are unhappy with the TRS government as it was unable to settle the loan waiver scheme. Power problems, lack of minimum support price (MSP) for agriculture produces added to the problem.

Bajanna, a farmer of Armoor said that Rahul Gandhi’s great grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone for Sriramsagar project (Pochampad) and he (Rahul) must visit the reservoir enroute to Nirmal. It is right time to visit and observe the plight of farmers and the position of Sriramsagar project, he opined.

Congress leaders should provide factual information to their national vice- president on his fruitful tour in the Telangana state, he said.
