Indian Mountaineering Foundation to help stranded trekkers

The IMF has two choppers that can be pressed into service for rescue efforts

Hyderabad: Trying to get more information on Indians stranded in Nepal, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation said that anyone who is a relative or a friend of someone who had gone mountaineering in Nepal before the earthquake struck, can inform the regional IMF coordinator about the same.

K. Ranga Rao, an ex-officio member from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, can be contacted on 9394883999 and 9849270575 for the same.

Mr Rao said the IMF has two choppers that can be pressed into service for rescue efforts along with expert mountaineers who are willing to take part in rescue missions.

He also said that tour operators who led expeditions to Nepal before the earthquake should come forward with the information.

This move comes after reports revealed that 20 mountaineers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were stranded in the northern base camp of Mt Everest, which falls under the Chinese authority.

Wing Commander S. Kutty, Hony Secretary of the IMF, is also coordinating the emergency assistance being provided to the mountaineers and trekkers from India.
