Chennai: Expressing dissatisfaction over the stand taken by the Chennai corporation on the availability of records of a property, the Madras high court directed the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption to hold an enquiry into the missing revenue records relating to open space reservation land in Raja Nagar, Neelankarai, which was allegedly grabbed by a family.
Passing orders on a PIL, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam said it was stated on behalf of the corporation that they took over the records from St Thomas Mount panchayat union at Chitlapakkam and permission was granted by them and not by the corporation. It was stated that on enquiry, they were informed that the relevant records were conveniently not available.
“We issue a direction to the DVAC to hold an enquiry into these aspects and submit a report to us as we are completely dissatisfied with the stand placed before us, making the whole transaction suspect. The report is to be filed within two months,” the bench added.
The bench posted to July 21 further hearing of a public interest litigation from A. Kanagasabapathy, secretary of Raja Nagar welfare association, which sought a direction to the corporation to take possession of the disputed property and construct a common park for the welfare of the residents.
