BJR Government Degree College unable to shift to new campus
Hyderabad: Around 500 students of BJR Government Degree College are studying in a makeshift campus, which is shared with a government junior college at Bazarghat since two decades. As a result students are forced to study in a congested atmosphere.
The poor conditions of toilets and other facilities due to the improper sharing of maintenance responsibilities between the two managements add to the woes.
The sad part is that even though the college has a brand new campus at Narayanguda it is unable to shift there due to lack of effective measures by the state as well as Central government authorities.
The new campus at Narayanguda is located near a residential locality and the residents are opposing the move to shift the college as the area’s narrow lanes will get congested due to students.
For the purpose the college’s management had been demanding 1.5 acres abutting the campus belonging to the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) be given to them so that they can build a spacious entry and exit points. The request is pending since two years.
As per sources a letter was sent from the Hyderabad collectorate to the Ministry of Science and Technology proposing transfer of IICT land to the college authorities in return for land somewhere else in Hyderabad.
But there was no reply from the ministry as the letter was not routed through the state government. The Hyderabad collectorate is now planning to send a letter again through the CMO.
While the state and Centre are taking their sweet time students continue to suffer. The 1.5 acre IICT land is vacant since the 1940s. The land's ownership changed hands through various Central bodies before coming under IICT.
