Bandh partial in Anantapur

Bandh call by YSRC in protest against arrest of party leaders
Anantapur: Bandh call by YSRC in protest against arrest of party leaders on Monday was partial in Anantapur. Party called for bandh following arrest of former MLA Anantapur B. Gurunath Reddy and other leaders over allegations of role in provoking violence as part of retaliation to murder of party leader B. Prasad Reddy at Rapthadu tahsildar office in the last week.
With the issue turned political colour, YSRC targeted district police and ruling party leaders at various levels while Telugu Desam was resisting as opposition. Police did not permit the party cadres to take out procession following implementation of section 144 and also 30 Police Act in the city. Uravakonda MLA Y. Visweswar Reddy and YSRC district convener K. Shankar Narayana along big number of party activists led the bandh. Police arrested them while tried to take out procession.
Mr Visweswar Reddy accused chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was encouraging his party men against YSRC leaders and cadres in the state. “Our former MLA Gurunath Reddy was arrested on baseless allegations though he went to spot to console family members. Further, we resisted from organising silent protest along with bandh call,” observed Mr Visweswar Reddy.
As part of the bandh, several government offices were closed and most of the business centres were remained open following stringent warning issued by the district police not to accept force by anybody to close shops in the name of bandh. Police teams along with 10 video cameras were used to shoot the protests on Monday and no incidents reported.
