Photos just on phone
Lalit Krishnani explains how he changed his cellphone camera to a professional one
Hyderabad: Photography has always intrigued and driven city’s Lalit Krishnani. In the day and age, when it is a common joke that everyone with a DSLR is calling themselves a photographer, Lalit is, in fact, working towards turning everyone with a mobile phone into a photographer.
A professional photographer, this 23-year-old does everything with just his mobile camera — from fashion shoots to nature and wildlife photography to even macros. The administrator of the growing community of Mobile Photography on Facebook, he believes, “Almost everyone has a mobile with a camera now. And, these devices can be turned into high resolution cameras with a few add-ons. This means that any average person who can’t afford to buy a costly DSLR, but has a passion for photography, can do it with just a mobile camera.”
The minimum cost of a DSLR would be Rs 30,000. Now add to that the expensive lenses that would be needed to do all the cool stuff like the fish eye or even the macro. Lalit uses an Oppo Find 7 and the gadgets he uses don’t cost more than Rs 1,000. He says, “The gadgets which I use on the phone camera are fish eye lens, macro lens, wide angle lens. It’s a set of three lenses and it costs around Rs 1,000.” Although Lalit studied business management, he charted out a path for himself in the creative fields, like modelling and of course, photography. He was only experimenting, when he tried his hand at mobile photography.
“Photography has been a passion in my life. As a child, I would see photographers at work. As I picked up photography, I thought I should try something new. So I experimented with mobile camera photography and it worked well,” he says adding, “Many photographers since then have got inspired by my work, especially those who can’t afford a DSLR.”
Born and brought up in Hyderabad, Lalit tried his hand at several things after graduation. “I’m into modelling, I sometimes write scripts for short films. I started working with an advertising firm, when I was 19. When I turned 21, I was a manager there. Last year, I quit it to open my own adverting firm. But my real love is mobile photography and I will continue to work towards that.”
