IPL 8: 'Yuvraj Singh still a match-winner for us,' says JP Duminy
Mumbai: Yuvraj Singh is yet to justify his cost (Rs 16 crore) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). But even after a series of duds, Delhi Daredevils captain Jean-Paul Duminy believes the southpaw is a champion and will perform soon.
On Sunday, at the Brabourne Stadium here – where Delhi lost to Rajasthan Royals by 14 runs – Yuvraj could contribute only 22 with the bat.
When asked about looking ahead of Yuvraj in the upcoming matches, Duminy said: “Even though options are open, Yuvraj is still a match-winner for us. I still believe in him as a player. I believe he is going to come handy soon. We, as a squad and franchise, should back him.”

Duminy also stressed about the importance of being consistent to stay afloat in the tournament.
“I don’t think we bowled particularly well. Even on the field, the body language lacked the passion,” said the 31-year-old.
Gurinder Sandhu dropped Ajinkya Rahane on 34, a miscommunication between Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra gave the Rajasthan batsman another lifeline on 66. Later, he ended up being unbeaten on 91.
Talking about picking Sandhu over tweaker Imran Tahir, Duminy said it was the right option keeping in mind the conditions.
“Rajasthan swung the ball well. At the end of the day, they played well. Rahane played a superb innings,” he added.
The South African also praised Karun Nair who slammed a 38-ball 61 batting ahead of Steve Smith.
“I wasn’t surpised at Nair batting at No 3. He is an exciting prospect for Indian cricket. We knew he is going to be there in the top order,” said Duminy.
Meanwhile, the all-rounder also said that he is enjoying his new role (that of a captain).
“I’m thoroughly enjoying captaincy. It brings out the best in me. We’ve had decent success but we are thriving for more in the next few games,” he added.
