Twins born on Kacheguda railway platform in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A destitute woman gave birth to twins at the Kacheguda railway station here on Sunday with the help of 108 ambulance staff. EMRI sources said that people at the station found the woman crying in pain on Platform No. 2. They called the 108 ambulance service.
Ambulance pilot M. Sridhar and technician Ravi Kumar rushed to the spot and found her to be in an advanced state of labour. They shifted her to a spot beneath the staircase and delivered her of twins.
The woman and babies taken to the Gandhi Hospital where they were admitted with the reference of the ambulance staff. According to sources, no one, family or friends, had turned up to check on her. The woman later identified herself as Manasa, 38, but she did provide any more information. Doctors said the woman and the twins were in a stable condition.
Railway officials confirmed the incident and said she had been staying at the station and used to beg for money. She was among the many destitutes who live in the city’s railway stations.
“We received an emergency call from the public. When we reached there we found the pregnant woman complaining of pain. As we couldn’t get her into the ambulance, we found a small place behind the stairs and completed the delivery. She was delivered of twins, a male and a female,” said Mr Sridhar.
