Hyderabad: Stressing on the need to enhance urban infrastructure to cope with the increasing migration from rural areas, Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Mr Srinivasa Chary of the Administrative Staff College on Sunday asked legislators to put all their efforts into improving urban living conditions.

On the second day of the three-day orientation programme for TRS MPs and legislators at the Vijayavihar Guest House complex at Nagarjuna Sagar, Mr Srinivasa Chary, director of ASCI, told legislators that Telangana would witness a 50 per cent increase in urban population in the coming few years as against 40 per cent in the rest of the country.

There was every need to improve infrastructure facilities in urban localities including water supply, drainage, roads, and power. He also said improving urban infrastructure was an area which could not be ignored as urban areas contributed to 70 per cent of the state’s economy.

He also suggested that instead of supplying drinking water for two to three hours a day, it would be better for the authorities to supply 24X7 supply, which would eventually prevent contamination of water.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who intervened in the presentation, told the legislators to concentrate on the subject and evolve strategies to see that urban areas got maximum attention in fund flows.

He also assured that the government would work out on providing 24X7 drinking water to all habitations and that he would soon appoint a Cabinet sub-committee to work out the modalities.

The Chief Minister also intervened during a presentation on improving farming and productivity and suggested to agricultural researchers that they should use suitable and understandable words in local language whenever they dealt with new innovations in the farm sector.

Mr Rao referred particularly to farm mechanization and emission of green house gases and said these kind of technical words could not be understood by farmers unless they were informed in their own language. Dr Praveen Rao of the Telangana Agricultural University was speaking on the need to improve farming in Telangana.
