Mumbai police commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the case by Crime Branch unit

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident in which ASI Dilip Shirke shot dead Vakola police station’s senior PI Vilas Joshi and then committed suicide. Mr Fadnavis also said that he had sought a study into the mental condition of the policemen and accordingly steps would be taken to reduce their stress.
Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria said, “I have ordered an inquiry into the case by the Crime Branch unit.” An official of the Mumbai Police crime branch said their line of investigation into the murder and suicide incident at the Vakola police station on Saturday would emphasise on finding out the reasons and sequence of events that led to assistant sub-inspector Shirke (55), who was nearing retirement, to murder his senior inspector and then turn the pistol on himself.
While senior PI Joshi succumbed to a couple of bullet injuries, including one, which hit his kidney, on Sunday, wireless operator Babasaheb Aher, who suffered a bullet injury on his leg on Saturday, is out of danger.
