Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao eyes Bison Ground

CM finds Army polo ground suitable to shift Secretariat
Hyderabad: With the attempt to shift the Secretariat to the Chest Hospital premises at Erragadda getting mired in controversies, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is now looking at the defence ministry-owned Bison Polo ground in Secunderabad as the venue for the state government headquarters.
Highly placed sources in the government said the Chief Minister found the 60-odd acre site quite suitable for the Secretariat and had asked officials to take up the issue with defence authorities.
Mr Rao is planning to call on defence minister Manohar Parrikar during his visit to New Delhi after ongoing three-day orientation classes for TRS leaders at Nagarjunasagar, and will take up this issue among others.
“The state government will certainly have a new Secretariat and this (Bison Polo ground) is one suitable place which has been identified,” a senior official told this correspondent.
Asked whether this site would be final, he parried the question saying the Chief Minister would take the final call.
“We had a formal discussion with the defence authorities. They are willing to give the Bison Polo ground, which is about 60 to 70 acres, in lieu of a suitable alternative site. The state government has promised an alternative site. We will move forward,” he said.
The Bison Polo ground located opposite Tivoli Theatre in Secunderabad is used for military training, NCC camps and other defence-related activities for a long time. It is attached to the Gymkhana Ground.
