No contract stint for retired officials

The association said re-hiring them was preventing regular employees from gaining experience
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has imposed a ban on appointing retired persons as officers on special duty on a contract basis. The government’s decision follows complaints that various departments in the Secretariat were making such appointments, which was hampering the promotion avenues of regular employees.
Special secretary to government, finance, K. Pradeep Chandra issued orders to this effect on Saturday.
The Telangana Secretariat Employees Association had complained that retired employees were being re-hired as OSDs, consultants and advisers on contract bases and were being entrusted no special duty but only the regular work that they used to do prior to their retirement in their respective departments.
It said these ex-employees possessed no special expertise or skills. The association said re-hiring them was preventing regular employees from gaining experience. The government directed all administrative departments at the Secretariat to critically review the re-appointment/re-employment of the retired personnel.
