Birth of baby girl at makeshift hospital in Nepal lifts gloom

This is the second baby which was delivered in the make shift hospital in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Birth of a baby girl at a makeshift Israeli hospital in Kathmandu today provided a glimmer of hope to many at a time when gloom and despair has engulfed Nepal.

Lata Chand, a resident of the capital Kathmandu, gave birth to a baby girl this afternoon by normal delivery.

This is the second baby which was delivered in the make shift hospital in Kathmandu, which came up on Tuesday.

After the Indian armed forces, the Israeli forces have too come up with makeshift hospitals, equipped with all the necessary machinery.

With the government machinery falling short to handle the excess load of patients after the earthquake, these hospitals are proving to be of great help.

"The baby and the mother both are doing fine. The baby girl weighs around 3.6 kg," a doctor said.

Two days ago, a baby boy was born in the hospital, which has come up on the Military hospital premises in the Chauni area of the capital.

Kopila Bhandari, also a resident of Kathmandu, had a C-section delivery.

"After the sheer number of patients and nature of injuries, seeing life brings cheers on faces," another doctor in Kathmandu said.

Incidentally, Pemba Tamang, (15), who was pulled out of the rubble five days after the earthquake, is recuperating at the same hospital.

"For five days, he survived on water and ghee. He has no physical injury, but mental trauma still persists. We are closely monitoring the situation," said Roee Angel, a doctor looking after Pemba Tamang.
