Telangana IT minister K T Rama Rao to tour US for two weeks
The main aim is of attracting investments to Telangana
HYDERABAD: IT minister K.T. Rama Rao is scheduled to tour the US for two weeks starting May 5 with the main aim of attracting investments to Telangana. There are reports that TD leader Nara Lokesh has been successful in securing an appointment with US President Barack Obama on May 7 prompting the Telangana government to step up efforts to set up a similar meeting for Mr Rama Rao.
The TS government is learnt to have approached the officials of US Consulate in Hyderabad to secure Mr Obama’s appointment for Mr Rao. When contacted, Mr Rao tried to downplay the issue stating that his US tour was not about competing with Mr Lokesh or meeting Mr Obama but to promote ‘Brand Telangana’ and more so ‘Brand Hyderabad’.
“I will be meeting several industry leaders and potential investors in Washington DC, New York, Pittsburg, Dallas and the Bay area as part of my two-week US tour. If the opportunity comes to meet Mr Obama, I would certainly do so” Mr Rao said.
As of now, his appointment with the Indian Ambassador in US, Mr Arun K. Singh was confirmed. He will also attend events organised by the TS Diaspora in New Jersey, Dallas and Bay Area and solicit their partnership in achieving Bangaru Telangana.
Mr Lokesh on the other hand has scheduled meetings with chiefs of about 45 companies including top venture capitalist Vinod Khosla. He is expected meet Mr Obama on May 7 during his trip to Portland. Mr Lokesh, 32, did his MBA from Stanford University in the US, and Bachelor of Science with specialisation in management information systems from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh.
Mr Rama Rao, 38, did his MBA in marketing and e-commerce from Baruch College-City University of New York. Both have a network of college alumni in the US, who have set up companies in software, hardware and other sectors. They are trying to tap to attract investments to TS and AP.
