Chennai: A day before the release of the Tamil film, Utthama Villain, starring Kamal Hassan, the producer of the film settled a loan of Rs 2 crore obtained from M/s Thangam Cinemas which is engaged in distributing and producing films. When the application arising out of a suit filed by Thangam Cinemas represented by its partner S. Thangaraj came up for hearing before Justice
K. Ravichandra Baabu on Thursday, its counsel informed the court that the plaintiff had received the entire suit claim
from the producer by way of a demand draft and therefore the plaintiff was not pressing his application.
According to the plaintiff, under the banner of M/s Thirupathi Brothers Film Media Private Limited, directors N. Lingusamy and N. Subash Chandra Bose were engaged in producing the film Utthama Villain, directed by Ramesh Arvind.
Bose sought financial support to produce the film and obtained a loan of Rs 2 crore from Thangaraj.
In turn, the production house greed to enter into an agreement by creating a charge on the copyright of the film and distribution rights in Chengalpattu in favour of Thangam Cinemas for five years.
However, after completing the film, this agreement was not honoured. Without repaying the loan amount with interest, the production house planned to release the film in an attempt to cheat him, the plaintiff added.
