Retired Army man commits suicide in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Depressed over ill health, a retired Lieutenant Colonel committed suicide at Kanakadurga Colony in Langer Houz early on Thursday.
He ended his life by hanging from the ceiling in his son’s house. Police identified the victim as Lieutenant Colonel B. Satyanarayana (retd), 73, a resident of Jamalamadugu in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Langer Houz police, Satyanarayana was suffering from chronic back pain since a year and was being treated for the ailment.
He came down to Hyderabad to the house of his son B. Vamshi Krishna in Kanakadurga Colony. His son took care of his health and treatment and took him to the doctor for checkups.
As part of his treatment he came down to Hyderabad about a month ago and stayed with Mr Krishna and his wife, Ms Gayathri.
On Wednesday Mr Krishna who works at a call centre in Hitec City, left for office for the night shift. Police said Satyanarayana and Ms Gayathri had their dinner and went to sleep.
“Satyanarayana slept in the hall in the house. In the early hours on Thursday he committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in the hall. His daughter-in-law who woke up in the morning grew suspicious when she found the hall door closed and there was no response to knocks. She peeped through the window from an adjacent room and found him hanging,” said Langer Houz sub-inspector G. Shashidhar.
There was a suicide note at the spot which mentioned he ended his life due to illness. The note read, “Nobody is responsible for my death but only due to ill health. I’m sorry Vamshi and Gayathri.”
Based on Mr Krishna’s complaint, a case was booked and is being investigated. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital and was later handed over to the victim’s family after a post-mortem.
