More cows dead, toll rises to 17

The trader who donated the semolina was taken into police custody and is being questioned

VIJAYAWADA: The number of cows that died of food poisoning in the Gosamrakshana Samiti near Kanakadurga temple after being fed stale semolina on Tuesday rose to 17 on Thursday.

Nine cows had died on Wednesday. Veterinarians said that some more are still critical and under observation.

Meanwhile, the trader who donated the semolina was taken into police custody and is being questioned.

Earlier in the day, some devotees and associations staged protests demanding action against the members of the Samiti’s organising committee. They demanded committee be abolished and a new one constituted.
