IIT-Kharagpur student from Hyderabad drowns in West Bengal

M. Chandhan Suman, 23, and nine of his friends had gone to the river to bathe

Hyderabad: An IIT-Kharagpur student from Hyderabad drowned in the Subarnarekha River at Nayagram village in West Bengal on Thursday.

M. Chandhan Suman, 23, and nine of his friends had gone to the river to bathe. Additional SP of Kharagpur Abhishek Gupta said the 10 students had left for a picnic on Wednesday night. “They entered the river to bathe and Suman drowned. Apparently he did not know how to swim,” said Mr Gupta talking to Deccan Chronicle over the phone.

The Subarnarekha riverfront is located around an hour’s drive from IIT-Kharagpur. His body was fished out and sent for post-mortem. IIT officials informed Suman’s parents. He had joined the institute in 2010.
