Seriously! Google plans to remove the space bar

Manufactures are looking to make notebooks smaller; but this seems ridiculous

Mumbai: Laptop manufacturers are already trying their best to reduce the extra space of the laptop. Excluding the bezel around the keyboard or cramping the spaces between the keys are dome of the tricks of the trade. However, Google has taken a different route.

Google is considering something drastic with a new patent design on the keyboard front for the future of notebooks. Quartz reported that Google has been awarded a new patent design that leaves out the spacebar to make way for smaller laptops in future.

According to the patent, Google has removed the spacebar and has moved the touchpad towards the top. The new design has merged the top of the touchpad with the keyboard where the spacebar lies. Indirectly, the spacebar is replaced by an extended touchpad.

The top of the touchpad or trackpad is separated by a fine ridge, which doubles up as a spacebar when using the keyboard and as a mouse click when used as a trackpad.

According to the report, the Patent Office had actually rejected this patent for almost four years in a row till it was finally approved.
