PC George to field candidate, embarrass UDF in bypoll
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KC (M) MLA P. C. George is going ahead with his plans to cause maximum headache to the UDF in the the Aruvikkara byelection.
He has decided to field a candidate under the banner of Anti-Corruption Democratic Front (ACDF) and formed a seven-member sub-committee to identify five candidates.
A proxy election will be held in Aruvikkara before the election notification and the person who polls the maximum number of votes would contest against the UDF, LDF and BJP candidates.
Mr George held a meeting of ACDF representatives at the Press Club here which was attended by VSDP (Vaikundaswami Dharma Pracharana Sabha) chairman, Vishnupuram Chandrashekharan, Dalit Human Rights Movement (DHRM), block panchayat presidents, panchayat vice-presidents, three panchayat members and a block member, who have won as independents, as well as prominent church representative belonging to Aruvikkara.
“There are 141 wards in Aruvikkara and close to two lakh voters. We will print ballot papers having the details of all the five candidates. The voters can select one among the five candidates or even None Of The Above (NOTA). The ballot papers will be brought back to the Press Club where we will count the votes polled”, Mr George told DC.
The seven-member committee to choose the five candidates will be headed by Mr George himself. Prominent leaders belonging to VSDP, DHRM and other community groups will also be in the committee.
Mr George, who held talks with SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan here, received support from Mr Natesan for his initiative.
After having lunch together, Mr Vellapally told reporters that he and Mr George would stand for the marginalised sections in society. He alleged that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy does nothing for the people, although he agrees to do everything.
