Nine hours power for farms next summer

Around 7,000 MW will be available by March 2016 which would be sufficient for all needs

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed officials to supply nine hours of uninterrupted power to the agriculture sector from next summer.

Around 7,000 MW will be available by March 2016 which would be sufficient for all needs, he said at a meeting. He named the proposed 6,800 MW power plant at Damacherla in Nalgonda district after Yadadri, and said its foundation would be laid soon.

Mr Rao said the state had 4,200 MW. In addition to this, 150 MW from NTPC’s Jhajhar unit, 810 MW from Gayatri, 600 MW from KTPP-Bhupalapalli, 1200 MW from the Singareni plant in Adilabad and 290 MW from Central stations would be available.

“With this, total power will go above 7,000 MW, and we can easily supply nine hours power for agriculture, that too during the day,” Mr Rao said. From March 2016 agriculture will become our first priority," Mr Rao said. "By 2018, we will become a surplus state," he said.
