Mayor Tony Chammany assures road repairs before rains

A review meeting will be held on May 11

KOCHI: Even as the city roads remain in a very poor condition due to the delay in regular repair works, mayor Tony Chammany has assured that all the roads would be re-laid before the onset of monsoon.

A meeting of stakeholders he called in view of widespread public protests against the lackadaisical attitude on Wednesday decided to take up the emergency repair works on a war footing.

In a release, the mayor said various agencies had been asked to restore the trenched roads at the earliest. The civic body made it clear that no permission would be given for road cutting after May 1. The already permitted trenching works should be completed in two days.

During the meeting, Kerala Water Authority officials promised to repair all leaking pipes before May 10. It has been pointed out that regular breakage of pipelines in many parts of the city causes damages to roads. A review meeting will be held on May 11.

Officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation promised to repair roads along the metro corridor before May 18. A joint inspection of roads by stakeholders will be carried out on May 18.
