Kozhikode turning into a hub for narcotics

College students major market for dealers

Kozhikode: In spite intense vigil against narcotic drugs, including ganja, the city has turned a hub for their trade, which is evident from the arrest of two drug peddlers, including one with brown sugar and another, an Orissa native, with ganja, on Wednesday

According to the police, the drug use has become rampant among college students, causing concern to parents and college authorities.

The town police arrested Athanikal native Puzhyayil Bilathu, with 35 packets of brown sugar, each costing Rs 1, 000, brought from Mumbai by a migrant labourer working in the city.

“It has been revealed that students are the major targets of the vendors,” said Mr T.K. Ashraf, CI.

The Orissa native had been selling ganja among his friends and other migrant labourers in the city for the last few months, Mr Ashraf added.

The police have collected information about the students who are regular customers.
