Bengaluru: At least 100 people from Karnataka are still untraceable in Nepal and efforts are on to find them, according to State Disaster Management Cell officials. The Control Room set up in Bengaluru had received queries about hundred people, who have either not called their families after the Saturday’s quake, nor were their family members able to contact them.
The officials said their whereabouts were being checked by the IAS officer Pankajkumar Pandey, currently in Kathmandu. “We are working with local authorities to trace the remaining stranded Kannadigas in Nepal. So far there has been no report of anybody from state figuring in the casualties list. However, the death toll continues to rise and we are keeping our fingers crossed,” the official said.
The officials added that the state government was hiring buses in Kathmandu, Gorakhpur and Varanasi to ferry people. “As per our earlier estimate, based on the calls and queries received at the Control room, we had listed about 600 people from the state. But the figures may increase in the coming days. It will take at least a week to get the final figures of stranded people. On Wednesday many families returned to the city by train from New Delhi, after being rescued in Nepal.”
BJP’s team of doctors leaves for Nepal
The doctors’ cell of the state BJP sent 20 physicians to quake hit Nepal on Wednesday. Doctors’ Cell convener Dr. Manjunath led the team, which consists of orthopaedics, surgeons, general physicians and intensive care specialist. BJP spokesperson Ashwathnarayanan said that the second batch of doctors will leave for Nepal on Thursday. “They will stay in the Himalayan nation for a week. The BJP has organised teams of top superspecialists in the state within a short time,” he said.
