Tattoo-gate: Apple’s Watch isn’t friendly on your tattooed wrist

On a tattooed wrist, all readings are slightly awry, point out users

Mumbai: Immediately after Apple launched the Watch in April, reviewers and testers were the first to point flaws and issues with it. After the recent scratch-gate issue, where the Watch’s stainless steel chassis was found easily scratched, the new tattoo-gate issue has surfaced again.

A handful of Apple Watch users have started complaining about its unfriendly approach towards a tattooed wrist. Media reports state that the Apple Watch gives our inaccurate heart rate results on your tattooed wrist. The reason—obstruction to the heart rate sensor’s beaming light caused by the tattoo ink, which is opaque and does not let the light reflect back from the skin.

On detecting the tattooed area, Apple Watch starts asking the security PIN, time and again. Feeding in your password all over again just annoys the Apple Watch user.

Apple Watch could not be alone—the tattoo-gate issue could also affect other smartwatches, such as those from Motorola, LG, ASUS and others.
