Khammam: The government is expecting abnormal increase in the market cess revenue from the 12 agricultural markets in the district in the year 2015-16. The farmers of the district stopped going to Guntur for selling cotton and chilli after the formation of Telangana. With this, all the markets witnessed full of farm produce in the present season.
The produce such as green gram, paddy, maize, red gram, bengal gram, cotton and chilli are brought to these 12 markets in the district. These market committees collected Rs 27 crore as cess during 2013-14 against Rs 37.14 crore in 2014-15.
In united Andhra Pradesh, 20 per cent of the farmers used to sell their produce in Guntur market expecting more price than the Khammam markets. But, now the trend has changed and the farmers want to sell their produce in the district markets. It is expected that the market revenue ranging from Rs 50 crore to Rs 60 crore in 2015-16.
Cotton Corporation of India opened eight centres in the district this year against six in the previous year.
The government planned to provide more facilities in the agricultural markets to discourage the farmers to sell their produce in other state markets.
Marketing assistant director Vinod Kumar said that the government is focusing more on the issues such as providing the guarantee to the payments by the private and government agencies, insurance to the crops, extending minimum support price and guidance to the peasants who are visiting markets.
