More NDRF teams sent to Nepal; foreigners saved

The total deployment of NDRF teams in Nepal has increased to 16
New Delhi: Stepping up its relief and rescue operations in Nepal, India on Tuesday deployed six more teams of the National Disaster Response Force. With this, the total deployment of NDRF teams in Nepal has increased to 16, with 10 teams having been rushed there immediately after the earthquake hit the neighbouring country.
The NDRF personnel, who working almost round-the-clock in extremely difficult conditions, have so far rescued several people and pulled out 73 bodies from the debris at different locations in Nepal.
India has also evacuated 170 people of 15 nations, including the United States, Britain, Russia and Germany, the MEA said. “Friends in need. India assisted in evacuation from Nepal of 170 nationals from 15 countries via commercial & IAF aircraft,” MEA spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted.
Nepal on Tuesday thanked India for extending a “blank cheque” and taking the initiative on relief operations in the aftermath of killer quake. Meanwhile, the toll in India following Saturday’s powerful earthquake in Nepal, meanwhile, rose to 75 with Bihar accounting for maximum number of 58 casualties.
