Hyderabad, Secunderabad slums to have gyms, libraries

The CM plans to adopt a similar pattern of buildings in other slums
Hyderabad: Slums in Hyderabad and Secunderabad will soon have gyms, public libraries, and distribution of pattas to encroachers of government land below 125 square yards, housing scheme for poor and other facilities.
The Telangana government has decided to take up an action plan to woo city dwellers, particularly those living in slums with an eye on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.
The High Court has issued a directive to the Telangana government to conduct pending GHMC elections by December 15.
Home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy while thanking people, party leaders, cadres for attending the Vijaya Garjana programme at Parade Grounds on the occasion of the party’s foundation day on Monday, also announced that the government would come out with an action plan soon for the city.
“We are planning to provide gym, library for every basti, improve basic amenities, road network, power supply, housing scheme for the homeless poor. Out of 100 people in the state, 80 per cent are SCs, STs and BCs. We also plan to have 200 new markets in Hyderabad,” the home minister said. The two-bedroom houses in other parts of the city would be planned on the Bholkpur IDH model where four-storied buildings have been reconstructed.
The CM plans to adopt a similar pattern of buildings in other slums. Though the regularisation of house sites for poor hit a road block, the home minister exuded confidence that they would issue pattas to those dwellers where there is no litigation.
According to Mr Reddy, city ministers, deputy CM Mohd Mahamood Ali, excise minister T. Padma Rao, and commercial taxes minister T Srinivas Yadav, would take care of certain areas and focus on developmental programmes after completion of political training classes on May 4.
The minister said the turnout at Vijaya Garjana public meeting on Monday was 12 lakh as against their expectation of 10 lakh. “The CM has proved that he is an unchallenged leader. It is a slap on the face of our opponents,” he added.
