Nepal earthquake: Hours spent under tents, recalls Telangana resident

The tents were erected by the management of the institution

KARIMNAGAR: Katkuri Sandeep Reddy, a native of Karimnagar city and MBBS II year student of a medical college in Nepal, recollected ordeals that he faced after massive earthquake that rocked the country on April 25. He returned to the city and shared his experiences with the media here on Tuesday. This medico thanked the Union and TS governments for ensuring their safe return.

Mr Sandeep, son of a businessman from the city, said that he along with his classmates and other students of the college of medical sciences at Bharatpur Chitwan of Nepal spent sleepless nights under tents as the earthquake shook the country from Saturday. The tents were erected by the management of the institution.

“We were preparing for an examination at the time of the earthquake which hit Nepal. We came out from our rooms and stayed on the roads, witnessing while distant buildings falling apart. Fortunately, our college is located on plain area. No buildings of our locality were caved in. However, we were feeling tremors for every two hours in a day,” explained the medical student.

Sensing trouble, the management of the college arranged three buses to send back the students to border of Nepal and India on Sunday. Later, we were shifted to Gorakhpur by Indian government. Gorakhpur collector provided accommodation for us on Sunday night. Then, we were sent to Telangana Bhavan, New Delhi, as per instructions of Telangana state resident commissioner Shashank Goyal, he stated.

Sandeep Reddy’s father Bhaskar Reddy and mother Sukanya Reddy thanked Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Telangana IT minister K. Taraka Rama Rao and Congress MLC T. Santosh Kumar for special attention to bring their son to India. They also expre-ssed gratitude to the media for highlighting about the students’ plight.
