Friends recall ‘brilliance’ of doctors Irshad, Deepak
Kozhikode: Friends struggling to comprehend the death of the two young doctors Dr Deepak Thomas and Dr Irshad A.S say “there was never a dull moment” in their presence.
Both were actively involved in college activities during their MBBS days. Dr Deepak was the Magazine Editor of Medical College during 2009-10 year, which won many awards and Dr Irshad was the Hostel secretary of one of the men’s hostels at the Medical College. Both were roommates from the very first year in the Medical College.
“Both were very brilliant students and at the same time actively involved in extracurricular activities. Whenever they got some free days, they went for trips,” recollected Dr Geo Sebastian, their classmate at the Medical College, who is presently working at PHC in Iritty, Kannur.
“They both has a lot of friends compared to us. They conducted themselves well with people and that earned them a lot of good friends,” he added. The friendship started when they did Entrance coaching at Pala, Kottayam, together.
“Though not always seen to be studying, when the results came, Deepak was on the top of the list,” remembers Reneesh V.J, Deepak’s classmate and hostelmate at Kannur Jawahar Navodaya School from 6th to 12th standard.
“Deepak was a popular young man who loved travelling and his friends,” added Reneesh, who is presently working in Uttarakhand.
The team including the third member Dr Abin Suri, who miraculously escaped from the debris when their hotel collapsed in the earthquake, left for Nepal from Delhi on April 21 and reached Kathmandu on April 23.
The three doctors were the 51st MBBS batch (2007-2013) of Kozhikode Medical College.
