CPM eyes social media for fresh impetus
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With Sangh Parivar organisations going on an overdrive in social networking sites allegedly spreading falsehoods to change the narrative of Indian nationalism, the CPM has decided to effectively intervene in such platforms to counter their propaganda and convey progressive perspective on such issues.
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, while talking to DC admitted that though the party had moved in rather late on the social networking front, it would now like to effectively convey its views through such platforms.
“We used social networking sites efficiently during the party congress at Vishakhapatnam. Efforts are on to sustain it further. That is something which we definitely have our eyes and ears on,” he added.
The CPM believes that the activities of fundamentalist organisations are deceptive and damaging to the country.
“It evokes a sense of patriotism among people. We need to adopt a constructive approach and counter the divisive forces with progressive ideas. We will be focussing on these issues,” said Mr Yechury.
He said party would also focus on serious issues like Land Acquisition to trigger a meaningful debate on the social networking sites.
“At the moment the whole debate is bordering on Delhi suicide, whether it was engineered by AAP. Nobody seems to be bothered about the real issues. One farmer commits suicide in the country every 36 minutes,” he added.
The party wants to invite youth to debate issues like cost of production which is rising faster than MSP, drought, unseasonal rain, predicted weak monsoon and food security.
The CPM had recently issued an appeal to volunteers who could effectively use social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter for promoting the party views. It had received good response from the youth.
The volunteers who are well versed in graphic designing and writing skills, would be helping the party run on-line campaigns, come up with catchy slogans and artistic and attractive posters on various issues.
